What Is Kisspeptin-10?
Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest bioactive fragment of the kisspeptin family, consisting of the C-terminal 10 amino acids that are sufficient for full receptor activation. Kisspeptins are products of the KISS1 gene and act through the GPR54 (KISS1R) receptor to regulate gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion.
Role in Reproductive Biology
Kisspeptin neurons in the hypothalamus serve as the master regulators of puberty onset and reproductive function. They integrate metabolic, environmental, and hormonal signals to control GnRH pulse frequency and amplitude, which in turn regulates LH and FSH secretion from the pituitary.
Mechanism of Action
Kisspeptin-10 binds to KISS1R on GnRH neurons, triggering depolarization and GnRH release. This makes it a potent stimulator of the entire hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. A single administration can produce robust LH and FSH pulses within minutes.
