What Is Semax?
Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension for metabolic stability. Unlike ACTH itself, Semax lacks adrenocorticotropic activity and does not stimulate cortisol production, making it valuable for studying cognitive and neuroprotective effects without HPA axis activation.
Neurotrophic Effects
Semax has been shown to upregulate BDNF and NGF (nerve growth factor) expression in brain tissue. These neurotrophins are essential for neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and cognitive function. The magnitude of BDNF increase observed in some studies (up to 4-fold) is remarkable for a peptide of this size.
Neuroprotective Research
In stroke and ischemia models, Semax has demonstrated significant neuroprotective effects including reduced infarct volume, preserved blood-brain barrier integrity, decreased inflammatory response in ischemic tissue, and improved functional recovery scores.
Cognitive Enhancement
Research has shown Semax improves attention and memory in both normal and impaired models, enhances learning speed and information processing, improves cognitive flexibility, and protects against stress-induced cognitive decline.
Research Applications
Full Scale Peptides provides Semax 10MG at research grade with full COA. Store lyophilized at -20°C. For laboratory research use only.
