What Is Selank?
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) developed as a stabilized analog of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immunostimulatory peptide. The addition of a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence to tuftsin’s C-terminus significantly extends its half-life while adding anxiolytic and nootropic properties not present in the parent molecule.
Anxiolytic Mechanisms
Selank’s anti-anxiety effects appear to involve modulation of the GABAergic system and serotonin metabolism. Research has shown that Selank increases BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) expression, modulates enkephalin and serotonin levels, influences GABA-A receptor sensitivity, and reduces corticotropin-releasing hormone under stress.
Cognitive Enhancement Research
In cognitive studies, Selank has demonstrated improvements in memory consolidation and retrieval, attention and information processing, learning in novel environments, and cognitive performance under stress conditions.
Immune Modulation
Retaining tuftsin’s immunomodulatory properties, Selank also influences immune function by modulating cytokine expression, enhancing monocyte function, and regulating inflammatory responses.
